Kellam Marching Knights

Welcome to the 2010-2011 Kellam Marching Knights! Over the next few months, you will embark on one of the greatest journeys of your high school career.  Whether new to our program, or veteran, this year promises to bring forth a wealth of personal and musical growth as well as memories that will last a lifetime.  The people you will meet within this organization will become some of the greatest friends you will ever know.  You will grow to know these people as brothers and sisters.  The people you share the field with will become a second family.  The days will be long.  The heat will be blistering.  The final production will take audiences breath away, and leave you with a far deeper understanding of why we choose to do this activity than words alone could ever express.  I am so excited to begin the season, as I hope you are!  Once again, please allow me to welcome you to the family!!!

Philosophy of Education

A musician’s life is not comprised of concerts and performances alone. These milestones, while wonderful, are merely that. The true growth of a person comes from the time in between the performances. It is this journey that we remember, and therefore, it is the journey that truly matters. It is here where we can observe our greatest growth, and recall our fondest memories. It is my hope that students of the Kellam Marching Knights will pursue their personal best musical and academic growth with the utmost passion and diligence. In regards to matter of placement, it is the belief of this director that we can never allow a panel of judges influence our sense of self-worth.  Placement does not matter!  Be it first place, or last, we can only strive to better ourselves on a daily basis. To compare otherwise is unfair to ourselves, and neglectful to our primary purpose.  We are capable of much more than one could ever imagine.  Our unity serves a greater principal than our individuality ever could. 

The Purpose of this Organization Shall Be:

• To Provide each student a comprehensive music education by teaching the skills necessary to succeed as young musicians and young adults.
• To Foster the development of essential character qualities including a commitment to excellence, a strong work ethic, personal integrity, leadership, and a respect for self and others.
• To Enhance and promote Floyd E. Kellam High School and Kellam community through the public performance of quality music.
• To Provide a positive, emotional outlet, and a quality social activity to the students of Kellam High School.
