Congratulations to our own Kellam Knight, Kevin Mitchell, for earning the 1st chair tuba in the 2010 All-State Symphonic Band.
Kevin traveled to James Madison University School of Music on February 27, 2010 to audition for a spot in the Virginia All State Band. In addition to playing some scales and doing sight reading, Kevin has to play the following prepared piece for the audition. There were a total of 36 tuba players working hard for those top tuba positions. The symphonic band has a total of 4 tuba players, the concert band has 6 tuba players and the orchestra has 2 tuba players this year.
The rehearsals for the concert started Thursday 4/8 from 12:30pm - 9:00pm. The rehearsals continue on Friday 4/9 from 8:30am - 5:00 pm, and again on Saturday 4/10 from 8:00 am - Noon.
The concert will start at 1:30PM on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The doors open at 12:45pm. The concert order is Orchestra, Concert Band and then Symphonic Band.
Here is a list of this years musical selections for the symphonic band concert. The director is Dr. David Waybright coming from the University of Florida. Kevin is very excited about the challenging music selections.
